Breast Augmentation Q&A

What changes can I make with breast augmentation?

When Dr. Echo performs a breast augmentation, his goal is to make aesthetically pleasing changes that fit your expectations and your body. In addition to increasing your breast size, you can use breast augmentation to improve the shape of your breasts and correct imbalances such as breasts with different shapes or sizes.

What should I know about breast implants?

Silicone and saline implants both have an outer silicone shell, come in a range of sizes, and have a round shape. The implant’s profile (projection) determines how far it sticks forward. Higher profile implants create a fuller breast with enhanced cleavage, while a lower profile implant can create a more natural breast shape.

Saline implants

Saline implants are filled with a sterile saltwater solution. These implants are filled with saline after they are inserted during surgery. If a saline implant ruptures, it quickly deflates, and your body absorbs the harmless saltwater.

Silicone implants

All silicone implants come prefilled with a thick silicone gel. We are currently using the 5th generation implants that have a more stable silicone than was available in the past. This cross-linking of the gel creates a soft breast implant that is more resistant to rupture.

How can I choose the best implant for my breast augmentation?

Choosing the best implant is often a personal choice. For example, silicone implants feel more like your natural breast tissue, while saline implants have a firmer feel.

However, there is a newer saline implant called the Ideal Implant. This new implant has multiple chambers, which helps prevent the saline from sloshing around and creates a soft breast similar to the silicone implant.

Your decision also depends on physical characteristics such as the thickness of your skin and the amount of existing breast tissue. These qualities often make one type of implant a better choice than the other.

After a physical examination, Dr. Echo fully explains your options and helps guide your decision to ensure you get the desired results.

What should I expect during breast augmentation surgery?

Dr. Echo performs breast augmentation using many techniques and incision placements. However, he ensures that your scars are minimal and hidden. The incisions are commonly in the lower breast crease or around the areola.

After making the incision, he creates a pocket for the implant that’s either under the muscle or behind your breast tissue.

Most patients go back to work after one week, but it takes about six weeks for a full recovery. You’re usually cleared to resume all activities within two months.
